Getting started

How to make your own subliminal audio on iPhone

Start with a few words you want to return to, then turn them into a voice track and a background mix. Here is a practical workflow, with realistic expectations at every step.

What you are making

In personal audio, a subliminal usually means spoken affirmations mixed quietly beneath another sound. The label does not establish that the voice is outside awareness or that the finished track causes a particular result. An audible affirmation recording is also a valid option.

You need a script, a recorded or generated voice, and a way to combine it with a background. You can assemble those parts in separate recording and editing apps. A subliminal maker such as Sublime brings the steps together on iPhone.

1. Pick one intention and write a short script

Choose a situation you recognize rather than a complete life transformation. “Participating in meetings” is easier to write for than “being perfect.” Begin with three to eight short lines that describe a perspective or action you want to practice.

For example: “I can prepare one useful idea. I can pause before I speak. I can ask for clarification. I can learn from the conversation.” Edit anything that sounds unlike you. A script you understand is more useful than a long list copied without review.

2. Make a voice track

Read the script aloud in a quiet place. Use a natural pace and leave a little space between lines. Listen for background noise or words you rushed through. You can use your phone’s microphone; start simply before buying recording equipment.

In Sublime, select or write your affirmations and choose “Record my voice.” Follow the recorder’s instructions, then use the recording to continue. Text to speech is available when you prefer a generated voice. Review the selected text before generating it.

3. Choose a background you want to hear

Try a sound you find unobtrusive. Sublime’s options include white noise, pink noise, and soft ambience, as well as no background. A background is a listening choice, not a proven mechanism that makes the affirmations effective.

If you assemble audio manually, make sure you have permission to use the sound, especially if you plan to share the finished recording. For personal sessions in Sublime, use the available in-app backgrounds.

4. Balance the voice and sound

First listen with the voice clear enough to check the content. Then adjust the voice and background independently until the mix is comfortable. Lowering a voice track does not establish that it bypasses conscious awareness.

Sublime also offers affirmation speed and layers. Start with one layer at normal speed so you can hear what you made. Change one setting at a time. More layers, higher speed, or louder audio are not proven to create stronger outcomes.

5. Choose a duration and create the audio

Choose a session length that fits the time you actually want to spend listening. Sublime has duration settings from 30 minutes to eight hours, and you can stop playback earlier. Save your creation in your library and listen to the finished mix before making it part of a routine.

If you are making sleep affirmations, overnight playback is optional. A brief wind-down routine can simply mean starting the audio and stopping when you are ready.

6. Review your routine without chasing a result

Ask practical questions: Do I like the words? Is the sound comfortable? Does the session fit my day? If a line starts to feel stale, rewrite it around a current situation. Pair a reminder about speaking up with one small action, such as preparing a question.

Research does not establish that consumer subliminal audio reliably creates lasting personal change. Our guide to what research says about subliminals explains the limits. You can still choose a personal audio routine without making those claims.

A few things to know

Questions, answered.

How many affirmations should I start with?

A small set of three to eight lines is a practical starting point for reviewing and recording your script. This is a writing suggestion, not a scientifically established dose.

Should the words be completely inaudible?

There is no proven requirement that the words be inaudible. Choose a comfortable mix and understand that quiet audio alone does not demonstrate subliminal processing.
